Visible Photoluminescence of Variable-Length Zinc Oxide Nanorods Embedded in Porous Anodic Alumina Template for Biosensor Applications
2021
Zinc oxide (ZnO) and porous anodic aluminum oxide (PAAO) are technologically important materials, rich with features that are of interest in optical applications, for example, in light-emitting and sensing devices. Here, we present synthesis method of aligned ZnO nanorods (NR) with 40 nm diameter and variable length in 150 to 500 nm range obtained by atomic layer deposition (ALD) of ZnO in pores of continuously variable thickness PAAO. The relative intensity of yellow (1.99 eV), green (2.35 eV), and blue (2.82 eV) photoluminescence (PL) components originating from the different types of defects, varied with non-monotonic dependency on the composite film thickness with a Fabry–Pérot like mod…
Porous Anodic Alumina as template for the cathodic electrodeposition of oxide and hydroxide nanostructures
2009
Electrodeposition of supported gadolinium-doped ceria solid solution nanowires
2012
Gadolinium-ceria solid solution nanowires with tunable composition have been prepared through template cathodic electrodeposition from solutions containing Ce 3+Gd 3+ in a variable ratio. The employed template is Porous Anodic Alumina because it can function as thermal resistant separator supporting the nanowires if used as ionic conductor in Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC). Scanning Electron Microscopy of the deposited nanostructures revealed that the use of ethanol as solvent and metal chloride as electrolyte allowed to prepare continuous, compact and well defined nanowires with morphological features stable even after thermal treatment. EDX compositional analysis confirms the presence of bo…
Nanoscale membrane electrode assemblies based on porous anodic alumina for hydrogen–oxygen fuel cell
2007
In this paper, we demonstrate that nanoscale membrane electrode assemblies, functioning in a H 2/O 2 fuel cell, can be fabricated by impregnation of anodic alumina porous membranes with Nafion® and phosphotungstic acid. Porous anodic alumina is potentially a promising material for thin-film micro power sources because of its ability to be manipulated in micro-machining operations. Alumina membranes (Whatman, 50 μm thick, and pore diameters of 200 nm) impregnated with the proton conductor were characterized by means of scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and thermal analysis. The electrochemical characterization of the membrane electrode assemblies was carried out by recording t…
Oligonucleotide-capped nanoporous anodic alumina biosensor as diagnostic tool for rapid and accurate detection of Candida auris in clinical samples.
2021
[EN] Candida auris has arisen as an important multidrug-resistant fungus because of several nosocomial outbreaks and elevated rates of mortality. Accurate and rapid diagnosis of C. auris is highly desired; nevertheless, current methods often present severe limitations and produce misidentification. Herein a sensitive, selective, and time-competitive biosensor based on oligonucleotide-gated nanomaterials for effective detection of C. auris is presented. In the proposed design, a nanoporous anodic alumina scaffold is filled with the fluorescent indicator rhodamine B and the pores blocked with different oligonucleotides capable of specifically recognize C. auris genomic DNA. Gate opening modul…
A gated material as immunosensor for in-tissue detection of IDH1-R132H mutation in gliomas
2021
[EN] A nanodevice consisted on nanoporous anodic alumina (NAA) supports functionalized with specific and selective antibody-based gatekeepers for the detection of IDH1-R132H mutant enzyme is here reported. Molecular profile and tissue mutations of the tumours (such as IDH1/IDH2 mutations in gliomas) are a great source of information that already make a difference in terms of prognosis and prediction of response to combined therapy. However, standardized methodologies to determine this mutation are time-consuming and cannot provide information before or during surgical intervention, which significantly limits their utility in terms of intraoperative decisionmaking. To solve this limitation, …
Anodic Alumina Membranes: From Electrochemical Growth to Use as Template for Fabrication of Nanostructured Electrodes
2022
The great success of anodic alumina membranes is due to their morphological features coupled to both thermal and chemical stability. The electrochemical fabrication allows accurate control of the porous structure: in fact, the membrane morphological characteristics (pore length, pore diameter and cell density) can be controlled by adjusting the anodizing parameters (bath, temperature, voltage and time). This article deals with both the fabrication and use of anodic alumina membranes. In particular, we will show the specific role of the addition of aluminum ions to phosphoric acid-based anodizing solution in modifying the morphology of anodic alumina membranes. Anodic alumina membranes were …
